Located just south of Charleston, Kiawah Island Golf Resort is known for its beautiful 10-mile long beach stretching from one side of the island to the other. The resort is located on an island filled with hidden lagoons and stunning forests that are available to walk or cycle around. The Resort itself is split up into two main sections, East Beach, and West Beach although they are both located on the western side of the island. While both are quite similar, having restaurants and hotels and a golf course, the East beach also has a Forbes 5-star hotel called the Sanctuary. On the Eastern side of the island, you will find a lot more private homes along with more golf courses.

Tennis Facilities

The Roy Barth Tennis Center, named after the wonderful head coach who retired a few years ago, is known as one of the top tennis facilities in the States. There are 22 courts scattered across the resort, 10 of them being clay. The facilities also offer a practice alley that has an automatic retrieval system for the ball machine, meaning you can hit more and worry less. Alongside the courts and machines are the incredible coaches and pros of Kiawah, although Roy Barth no longer heads the program he passed it down to his son, Jonathan, who has taken his father’s legacy and made it his own.

Tennis Programs

The Roy Barth Tennis Center is an extremely professional and lively place to practice and train your tennis skills. Headed by Jonathan Barth the center offers a large lineup of opportunities to get out and hit some balls, whether that be with your kids at the round-robin events, or enduring the 2-hour Tournament Tough workouts they put on weekly. There are of course junior tennis camps during the summer along with the year-round Barth-Hawtin Tennis Academy designed to accelerate junior tennis players into being competition ready and even preparing them for college-level. Throughout the summer, the tennis schedule gets jam-packed with all kinds of tournaments and instructional clinics so you can never run out of things to do.

Other Amenities

Kiawah is most well-known for its namesake, the Golf. There are five different golf courses scattered throughout the 10,000 acres of land with the most famous two, Osprey Point and Ocean Course located on the eastern side of the island. Besides the golf, the biggest attraction of the island would have to be the beach that runs along the entire south side, with the whole island being the resort it makes the beach feel like more of a private area than a public hangout.

Accommodation & Dining

The 255-room hotel dubbed The Sanctuary has almost everything one could need for any kind of stay, a spa, fitness center, pools, retail and convenience shops, and restaurants all while being only a 5-minute walk to the tennis center. There are currently over a dozen different restaurants and bars situated throughout the resort with The Ocean Room steakhouse being one of the newest among them. If, however, you’re wanting something else they also have an Italian restaurant, a seafood restaurant, southern style food, BBQ’s, grills and breakfast buffets; food for the whole family.
